Approaching with seeds
Look for sparrows on the ground near villages and farmland. Hold seeds to attract their attention, keep your distance and wait for them to approach. A recently hurt sparrow that is still avoiding players will not respond normally to an approach.
Taming and breeding
Hold clean seeds and right-click. Each attempt consumes one item and gives a wild sparrow a 1/3 chance of being tamed. Feeding a tamed sparrow restores a little health. Adults enter love mode when the breeding conditions are met.
Scattering breadcrumbs
Use Breadcrumbs to scatter a food pile on supported ground. Nearby sparrows will approach and peck at it. Ground feeding and right-click taming with held seeds are separate actions.
Companion commands
Once tamed, the owner can sneak and right-click with an empty hand to cycle through Free, Follow, Stay and Return to Nest. The current mode appears on screen. Servers can disable this feature. A bird may still prioritize escaping danger.
Flocks and fright
Sparrows flock with their own kind, taking flight and finding new landing spots when startled. Attacks interrupt rest and affect their trust in the attacker.
Food list
Wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, beetroot seeds, torchflower seeds and pitcher pods.
These are the food tags in the current local build. Items contaminated with bird droppings are not treated as normal food for feeding.
