Versions and dependencies
Bird Watching is a Minecraft Java Edition mod. The currently maintained game version is 1.20.1, with Forge 47.2.x, Java 17 and GeckoLib 4.4.x required. Clients and servers should use the same mod version.
Installation steps
- Install Forge 47.2.x for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Download GeckoLib 4.4.x for 1.20.1 and the released Bird Watching JAR.
- Place both mods in this game instance's
modsfolder. - Start the game and confirm that Bird Watching appears in the mod list. For multiplayer, install the corresponding files on the server too.
Back up your world before upgrading. Downloads are available on CurseForge and Modrinth; check the release pages for specific versions.
Field Guide
Craft the Field Guide with a feather, paper, a book, and an ink sac, then hold it and right-click. It uses a forest background and a cream reading area, with bird, item, and gameplay documentation included in the mod for offline use.
Full-text search, section links, reading history, and font-size controls are available. Bird pages have animation previews: drag with the left mouse button to rotate, and hold Ctrl while scrolling to zoom. Recipes use current-world data, with ingredient tooltips and links to related items.
