Settings

Opening settings

Select Bird Watching Settings in the Field Guide. Settings can apply globally, to the current world or to the server. The server owner controls the effective settings in multiplayer.

Adjust spawning, flock sizes, sounds, flocks and scanning parameters for each species.

Common adjustments

Too many birds nearby
Lower the spawn multiplier or nearby bird limit, then observe the same area.
Too many bird calls
Lower the overall volume or adjust an individual species' sound settings.
Stop seagulls stealing food
Disable the seagull food theft option.
Too many bird droppings
Adjust natural droppings, frequency, the nearby limit and cleanup time.
Special gameplay
April Fools' mode enlarges birds and changes how wary they are of players. It is not the normal size setting.

Night heron taming and gifts

SettingDefault
Night heron taming / fish giftsEnabled; each can be disabled separately
Taming chance per accepted feeding1/3
Owner range for the gift timer32 blocks
Interval between spontaneous gift attempts300–600 seconds

Each gift attempt has a fixed 50% success chance, which is not adjustable in the configuration screen. Success produces one raw cod or salmon; no fishing rod, water, or live fish is required.

Only eligible activity at dusk and night counts toward the interval. The timer pauses when the owner is offline or too far away, or when the heron is frightened, or in Stay or Roost mode. The 32-block range limits the gift timer, not following.
